If you haven’t tried rice wraps, you must put this fun food on your summer bucket list to make!
I’m not joking, they are super delicious, nutritious and easy to make. They allow you to eat the rainbow, by allowing you to fill up on all those healthy fresh foods into a single wrap!
If you haven’t, these rice wraps (also known as summer rolls, Vietnams spring rolls, salad rolls, or rice paper rolls) they are basically sheets of thinly flattened rice (if this makes sense, they technically aren’t raw for those who are raw vegan).
Rice wraps are a perfect substitute for those “fake” whole wheat/ white tortilla wraps. Sure they may say how “healthy” they really are but on the contrary, if you read the ingredients on their packaging, those wraps you will find unnecessary fillers, preservatives, modified ingredients and colours that only lead to more issues down the road, choose these easy to make vegan wraps!
Ingredients: Simple
Rice wraps should only contain three ingredients which are: rice or rice flour, water, and salt.
Rice for a really long time and still till this day is viewed as an “unhealthy” food. In fact, I would argue that. Rice is actually quite healthy. Not to mention, it is gluten free, so many of those problems have been associated. Yes people prefer brown rice over white rice but at the end of the day it truly doesn’t matter too much. Anything you eat “too much” of is seen bad. I’d rather eat rice over oreo cookies any day. That because ingredients matter to me more. Just because a food is carb dense or has too much fat, doesn’t mean it’s unhealthy (aka, known to lose weight or gain weight which many of us look at). i really want you to get this out of your head.
Healthy Tips w/ Rice Wraps
Anyways, rice papers are totally good for you and not to mention rice flour is low in calories and low in fat for those that care. To make sure you are getting the full benefits, choose wisely with your foods. Prepare the rice wraps as a substitute for bread or various wraps, fill the wrap with lots of vegetable (use plenty of fibre-rich vegetables, you may also use fruits; like mango slices), you may add healthy protein choices (lean meats if you eat meat, seafood; like shrimp or if you are vegan, firm tofu slices taste amazing and some beans and/or grains). Also, don’t deep fry your wraps. You put all your heard healthy work to waste in an instant.
Just follow those simple rules and you’ll be eating healthy. Most importantly, you will be feel great. You will be left with quite the energy and so many health benefits.
Enjoy!
