Here are a few of my staple ingredients that I like to keep in my pantry at all times.
Some of these staples need to be at the house at all times for when I get in the mood for my energy ball making recipes!
I love keeping my bulk ingredients in glass containers/jars to maintain freshness and to avoid any plastic jars or bags to help reduce waste and to reduce plastic chemicals leaking into our foods.
Use Your Own Containers
Bring your own containers/bags is a very eco-friendly and healthy way of living and keeping food at its best. The best thing is, you are not only keeping plastic away from your health but also helping the earth 🌎. If you live in Canada, my favourite place to shop in bulk is @bulkbarnfoods. My local @bulkbarnfoods knows me to well ( I kid you not, I am there at least 3-4 times a week, lol) !
Try to buy in Bulk whenever you can, it’s a lot cheaper
Everything from purchasing nuts, seeds, dried fruit, flour and even organic ingredients can be bought and purchased at a friendly price in bulk rather than in grocery stores! Bringing your own jars/containers to @bulkbarnfoods make it easier to shop and live a very sustainable healthy life.
What I like to buy in bulk…
- nuts (almonds, sunflower seeds, cashews, brazilian nuts, pecans, pistachios, macadamia nuts – all raw or roasted)
- dried fruits (dates, unsweetened no sulphite shredded or organic toasted coconut, cranberries, prunes, figs – opt for unsweetened or raw)
- flours ( organic flours from coconut, sprouted whole wheat, almond meal, spelt and more)
- organic coconut oil
- nut butters/ seeds (organic crunchy or smooth almond butter, peanut butter, sunflower, or tahini)
- blackstrap molasses ( not fancy- ingredients not pure)
- Pasta ( lots of @GoGoQuinoa pastas to choose from)
- Beans (lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans and black beans)
- Oats (rolled oats, quick oats)
- Arrowroot powder
- psyllium husk
- epsom salt
- baking soda without aluminum
- teas and coffees
- seasoning and spices
If you have empty glass containers/jars even from foods you have bought, SAVE THEM & REUSE THEM!
If you have finished your pickles from a glass jar, save the glass jar. You may choose to peel the label and make your own stickers to label the food.
Purchase some glass jars from a Dollar Store or Amazon. You may purchase jars and bags at Bulk Barn too.
➡️How to shop with your RE-USEABLE CONTAINERS @bulkbarnfoods??
Gather all your jars/cloth bags/ containers and clean them out!
Bring them to the store with you.
Before you start filling up the jars, you will need to head to the front of the counter (cashier stand/check out) to weigh your re-usable bags/jars. They will need to tare your container to ensure they take off the weight of your container to subtract from your weight of your bulk foods when in the jar. The employees will put a sticker on the jar with the weight of the jar for future shopping trips to let them know how much weight to subtract your filled jar (put it on the bottom to keep your container looking minimal and clean).
Go shop! Fill your jars with your favourite ingredients. Only one ingredient per jar as cost varies*.
Ready for Checkout! The cashier will assist you in weighing your goodies and subtracting the weight from your containers so you are not paying for the weight of jar lol. Enjoy your goodies!
See it is not hard at all! ✨Maybe a little time consuming athe first trip but after that it is a no brainer!
Shop sustainably and better your lifestyle by #zerowaste pantry!
Be good to your own health!
